Measurement of The Nonlinear Refractive Index by Z-scan Technique
In this seminar the third-order nonlinear optical phenomena are described. The emphasis is on the nonlinear refractive index n2. We describe the Z-scan technique, which is a simple method to determine n2. At the end we show how Z-scan method can be used to examine protein concentration in human blood.
متن کاملLimits to the determination of the nonlinear refractive index by the Z-scan method
We analyze the limitations imposed by sample absorption on the determination of the nonlinear refractive index by the Z-scan technique. By using a nanostructured thin film consisting of Cu nanocrystals embedded in a dielectric Al2O3 matrix as an example, we show that thermo-optical effects appearing when linear absorption is significant can be strongly misleading in the interpretation of the re...
متن کاملMeasurement of the Nonlinear Refractive Index of LiNb03 by Z-scan Technique
Nonlinear refractive index, n of an undoped z-cut photorefractive LiNbO3 crystal has been investigated here by the Z-scan technique using a continuous wave (cw) laser beam from a multiline argon-ion laser. Here both the sign and magnitude of the measured n are considerably different from the reported z-scan result in LiNbO3 obtained with picoseconds pulsed laser at 532 nm but in good agreement ...
متن کاملDetermination of the refractive index and thickness of a hydroxide-catalysis bond between fused silica from reflectivity measurements.
Hydroxide-catalysis bonding is a high precision jointing technique producing strong, transparent and thin bonds, the use of which in the delicate fused silica mirror suspensions of aLIGO have been instrumental in the first detections of gravitational radiation. More sensitive future gravitational wave detectors will require more accurate (ideally in situ) measurements of properties such as bond...
متن کاملSilica Bottle Resonator Sensor for Refractive Index and Temperature Measurements
We propose and theoretically demonstrate a bottle resonator sensor with a nanoscale altitude and with alength several of hundreds of microns made on the top of the fiber with a radius of tens microns for refractive index and temperature sensor applications. The whispering gallery modes (WGMs) in the resonators can be excited with a taper fiber placed on the top of the resonator. These sensors c...
